“Kobe – An Italian Story,” from tomorrow the docu on of Prime Video.

Kobe Bryant’s is a huge success story, and it came to an abrupt end on January 26, 2020, when a helicopter crash cost him his life. And it is also the story of a young boy who grew up in Italy and went on to become one of the greatest basketball players ever. It is precisely his Italian roots that are the focus of the documentary‘Kobe – An Italian Story’, which is released for streaming on Amazon Prime Video on Thursday, September 15.

Kobe Bryant – An Italian Story

Born in Philadelphia on August 23, 1978, Kobe Bryant was the son of NBA player Joe Bryant, who ended his career in Italy. Thus Kobe spent several years in our country (from the time he was six until he was thirteen), moving to the cities of the clubs where his father played-Rieti, Reggio Calabria, Pistoia, Reggio Emilia-crossing the Italian provinces and experiencing many of the passions of his peers. See games in the small camps, pastasciutta, and even soccer ( he is an AC Milan fan).

The very close connection with our country is the focus of the documentary written by John Filippetto and directed by Jesus Garces Lambert. Both have some experience as documentary filmmakers: for example, Filippetto wrote the docu on entrepreneur Sergio Marchionne released in 2021, while Lambert was the director of the one on painter Caravaggio (2018). Together they have made a film that intends to tell “the story of the young Black Mamba, the teenager who conquered basketball Italy and was bewitched by our country” (the quote comes from the official synopsis).
