Josh Giddey of the Oklahoma City Thunder risks losing a lucrative contract with an Australian cereal brand, Weet-Bix.
According to Code Sports, Giddey has been removed from the company’s social accounts. Giddey could also lose a $40 million sponsorship contract with Weet-Bix following the NBA investigation into allegations the Australian guard had an inappropriate relationship with an underage girl. However, a spokesman for Weet-Bix confirmed that the company has not yet parted ways with Giddey.
“We are obviously aware of the news regarding Josh Giddey and are waiting for the facts to be confirmed.”, the spokesman told Code Sports. “We are in contact with Josh’s management team and are awaiting further details.”.
According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the league has begun investigating viral allegations that Giddey may have had an inappropriate relationship with a minor, citing league spokesman Mike Bass.
Let’s see how this complex and not without backstory situation will unfold. It certainly won’t be an easy few weeks for the young Australian, who is now under the eye of the storm and will be there for a while.
