Philadelphia 76ers star and reigning NBA MVP Joel Embiid admitted that choosing to represent Team USA and not France was a difficult decision. However, Embiid explained that the most important factor was his and his family’s settlement in the United States.
“It’s been tough. Obviously, I like all three options. With my home country, which I love very much, but I really want to participate in the Olympics. It’s my goal and my dream.”
“If you add the fact that my son is an American, that I’ve been here for so long, I feel that in the last few years every decision has been made only based on my family. My family, my son, the opportunity to represent a country like the United States and the fact that my son was born here. Like I said, I love my country, but ultimately I want to play the Olympics.”
“France made the commitment they were willing to make, I appreciate that very much. It was a difficult decision. I tried to take as much time as I could, but it was made difficult by the deadline that was set, however, I am happy.”, Embiid added..
