The fears of the Miami Heat have been confirmed by examinations conducted in recent hours: Jimmy Butler suffered a sprained right medial collateral ligament during the Play-in played against Philadelphia last night. The Miami star is therefore officially out for tomorrow’s second Play-in against Chicago, but not only that. Even if the Heat pass, Butler would definitely not play in the eventual series against the Boston Celtics.
Therefore, there will be no “Playoff Jimmy” this year and Miami’s chances shrink enormously. Not least because, apart from Butler, against the Bulls. Terry Rozier will not be there either., the second-leading scorer on Coach Spoelstra’s team. Rozier had already missed the game against the Sixers because of a neck injury that has not yet resolved.
#CHIvsMIA INJURY UPDATE: Jimmy Butler (right MCL sprain) and Terry Rozier (neck) have both been ruled out of tomorrow night’s play-in game vs the Bulls.

In his career Jimmy Butler has accustomed us to Playoff runs bordering on the heroic, such as when he took Miami to the Finals in 2020 and 2023, losing on both occasions. This year he will not have that chance: it will be the first time since 2016 that Butler will end the season without playing a Playoff game, certainly not due to his or his team’s demerits.
