Isaiah Thomas PHENOMENAL G-League debut! Is the NBA now closer?

Isaiah Thomas has been looking to return to the NBA for quite some time, so much so that he has become a meme for it but he may be one step closer to realizing his dream thanks to his debut with the Salt Lake City Stars in the G-League. On Thursday night, Thomas had a star-studded night, putting up a 32 points (with 5 triples) and 4 assists in the Stars’ 127 to 116 win.

Thomas clearly still has something left in the tank because playing well in the G-League is not exactly the easiest thing to do. His performance with the Stars was reminiscent of the way he tore opponents apart in his last great year in the NBA 7 seasons ago with the Boston Celtics.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time Isaiah Thomas has played well in the G-League but he doesn’t have much of a chance in the NBA. During the 2021-22 season, Thomas had a brief cameo in the G-League with the Grand Rapids Gold. In four games (including the Showcase Cup), Thomas averaged 41.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 6.8 assists, destroying opponents and looking ready for a return to the NBA.

However, it is clear that teams do not think Thomas is worth a consistent roster spot. It is not hard to see why: while on the one hand is able to make baskets at will, as evidenced by his incredible performance in his G-League 2024 debut with the Stars, on the other hand his lack of defense, due in large part to his 6-foot-9 frame, makes him borderline inschierable.
