Last week Isaiah Thomas had made his G-League season debut with the Salt Lake City Stars, immediately scoring 32 points against the Texas Legends. IT’s performance had been especially impressive because of the player’s had not played an official game in almost 2 years.
But Thomas did not stop at that first game. Since then the Stars have faced two more engagements and he has maintained exactly the same level of performance. Two days after the opener, Salt Lake City also won against the Sioux Falls Skyforce and Isaiah Thomas closed out the match with 30 points and 8 assists in 36′, shooting 10/23 from the field and 6/14 from three-point range. And because two doesn’t happen without three, Thomas also won his third G-League game of the season yesterday by beating the Wisconsin Herd with what is his best scoring performance to date: 34 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists, with 8/20 shooting and 7/13 from behind the arc.
In short, in only 3 games in the G-League the veteran immediately impressed and showed that he has not lost his talent. Doubt remains about his physical condition and what impact he might have, at age 35, in the NBA given his last unsuccessful experiences with the Mavericks, Lakers and Hornets. However, it cannot be ruled out that some franchise, perhaps outside the Playoffs, might give him a chance in the last weeks of RS. The Jazz for example, who are the most likely for obvious reasons, are out of the running for the post-season and could allow Thomas to measure himself against the NBA again, at least for a few games.
