After more than 6 months of inactivity following the serious allegations made against him for a strange relationship with a woman on the Boston Celtics staff, Ime Udoka gets back in the saddle and accepts the proposal of the Houston Rockets. The coach who only last year took the green-and-whites to the Finals had been out of a job after concrete interest from the Nets following Steve Nash’s dismissal, only to decide to tack on Jacque Vaughn because a figure like that Udoka would have added more problems at a time when the Durant-Irving duo seemed (correctly) on the path to a breakup with the franchise.
Udoka will replace Stephen Silas on the bench of the Rockets, for two consecutive seasons among the absolute worst teams in the NBA. The Texans finished this RS with a 22-60 record, last in the West tied with San Antonio and second only to the Detroit Pistons in the entire league. In Houston, Udoka will find some interesting youngsters such as Jalen Green, Alperen Sengun and Jabari Smith Jr. And who knows, maybe even Victor Wembanyama, with a little luck.
