A few weeks ago, Giannis Antetokounmpo had explicitly said he would not renew with the Milwaukee Bucks but would rather have waited until next year. Instead, on the contrary, the Greek agreed with the franchise in the past few hours to a new three-year, $186 million total.
Giannis had signed a five-year deal in 2020 and would still have two more years on his contract plus a $51 million or so Player Option in 2025-26. In this way Antetokounmpo’s deal with Milwaukee will instead be extended through 2028: the Player Option from the 2025-26 season will be “overwritten” by the new contract, which will then last until 2028 and have another Player Option in the final season.
