Minnesota Timberwolves big man Karl-Anthony Towns has fond memories of playing alongside Ricky Rubio, who recently announced his retirement from the NBA. After all, Towns had a chance to catch the tail end of Rubio’s time in the Twin Cities, as the two played together in Minnesota for two seasons, between 2015-16 and 2016-17 and then in 2020-21.
“I think anyone who has been fortunate enough to play with Ricky probably has the same stories or memories that I have. How great a human being he is, how great a professional he is.”, Towns said of his former teammate at the Timberwolves during a recent appearance on the P Podcast with Paul George presented by Wave Sports + Entertainment.
“My history with him goes back to when I came to Minnesota, when I was drafted, and the first person who welcomed me to Minnesota was Ricky. He took me to a restaurant in Minnesota and showed me around town. He took me around the city, showing me the places I should know and welcoming me to Minnesota, making me feel comfortable. I think Ricky is always like that with all his teammates, making everyone feel comfortable, loved and cared for. I’m not talking about him as a basketball player, but as a human being. I will always be grateful to him for making me a better man.”
