Durant surpasses Duncan: now one of the best scorers ever

When the 2022-23 season began, Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant was outside the Top 20 all-time leading scorers in NBA history. Now, with only 34 games into the season, Durant is already in the Top 15, having surpassed San Antonio Spurs icon Tim Duncan.

Entering Monday’s game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Durant needed only 13 points to surpass Duncan’s record of 26,496 points. Sure enough, it was an easy job for him, as he scored his 13th and 14th points midway through the second quarter of the contest. He finished with 32 points, shooting 10 of 18 from the field, all while also recording 9 rebounds and 5 assists in the 125 to 117 victory over Donovan Mitchell’s Cavs.

Durant’s climb in the top scorer rankings has certainly been phenomenal. Only in November did he pass Vince Carter for 19th place. But here he is now among the 15 best scorers in NBA history..

TOP 5

Kevin Durant is considered one of the greatest scorers in NBA history and the best of his generation. That being said, it is no surprise to see him rise up the list at such a rapid pace. The Top 5 is still quite far away for him, but if he can maintain his current production for the next two years, it is not hard to see him join Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, LeBron James and Kobe Bryant at the top of NBA scorers.

TOP 10

Tenth place is a thousand points away, so about fifty points at a 20-point average, below-average numbers for KD, so he could easily make it even in 40, that is, before the end of this year’s regular season without serious injuries.
