U.S. track and field star Noah Lyles is receiving a lot of criticism for his recent controversy over NBA Finals champions calling themselves “world champions.” Many NBA stars have responded to Noah Lyles’ comments and now even Drake is taking it out on the track and field star, as TMZ reports.
“He [Noah Lyles] thought this speech would look cool in the mirror the night before — now the whole league doesn’t esteem him anymore.”
Drake commented on a post by DJ Akademiks regarding Noah Lyles’ statement about the NBA. Lyles stated that NBA athletes should not be able to call themselves “world champions” after winning the NBA Finals, because according to him they only won a championship within the United States. It was not long before athletes and entertainment figures responded in kind.
The number one argument that Lyles did not consider is that the NBA is a global league. The best players from around the world consider the NBA their main focus, and in recent years it has become a sport dominated by foreign athletes.
Stay tuned to see if Lyles will respond to all the backlash, which he probably did not expect after his recent success on the world stage. After all the negative comments, it is likely that he has taken some time to reconsider his comments.
