Donte DiVincenzo has been a rotation player in the NBA for years and has clear Italian origins: on several occasions there has been talk of his possible call-up to the national team, should he get a passport, although over the years the Federation has focused on other names, Paolo Banchero in primis. In an interview with the New York Post, however, DiVincenzo, a Knicks guard, said. he would love to wear the Azzurra jersey., although he would tread lightly.
“Ideally, I would love to play for Italy. From a practical point of view, I don’t know if this will be possible. But if everything works out for the best, I would love it.” said DiVincenzo, adding that the bureaucracy to get an Italian passport is almost finished.
If he succeeds in doing so in a timely manner, in theory Donte DiVincenzo would be summonable by Gianmarco Pozzecco for next summer’s Pre-Olympics and possibly the Paris Olympics. “There is some paperwork still to be done, but I have already told my family and my agent that I would like to represent a nation. I hope to have all the paperwork soon so I can take the field.” added the New York-based player.
DiVincenzo this season, his first with the Knicks, is scoring 13.6 points on average and is particularly “hot” in the last period: they are 25.2 the average points scored in February in 6 games.
