Detroit is LITTLE ITALY: Simone Fontecchio also arrives, in exchange Gabriele Procida

After Danilo Gallinari, the Italian community on the roster of the Detroit Pistons: as reported by Adrian Wojnarowski the franchise has taken Simone Fontecchio, who was departing from the Utah Jazz and had been approached by some contenders earlier in the day. The Pistons are the exact opposite of a contender, but according to ESPN’s reporter, they would like to target the Italian, who will be a restricted free agent next summer.

In return, the Jazz receive Kevin Knox, a 2024 second-round pick via Wizards, and most importantly, the rights to Gabriele Procida, selected in the 2022 Draft with the No. 36 pick. The latter has never worn the Detroit jersey and currently plays for Alba Berlin in the EuroLeague, but it is not excluded that in the coming years he will be called right from the NBA, when he is more mature.

However, it is not certain that there will be two Italians in Detroit tomorrow as well: Gallinari remains a name to keep an eye on on the way out, his contract expires in the summer and he could make room just for Fontecchio in the Pistons’ rotation.

“Fontecchio will be restricted free agent in the summer and the Pistons took him to be part of their long-term group. He had so many suitors at the trade deadline.” Wojnarowski wrote. This season at the Jazz, Blue had earned a spot in the quintet and was scoring 8.9 points averaged in just over 23′ per game.
