Daniel Gafford misses Wilt Chamberlain’s record by a whisker due to NERVOSISM

Daniel Gafford came very close to making NBA and world basketball history.

The center of the Dallas Mavericks has scored 33 consecutive shots from the field over several contests, however, missing on the 34th attempt. He stopped just short of the record of Wilt Chamberlain who touched 35 instead.

Gafford made a mistake in the first quarter of the challenge with the Oklahoma City Thunder, missing a shot from deep (contested) after capturing an offensive rebound. The big man probably paid for the absence of an assist man like Luka Doncic. OKC won 119-126 despite Gafford finishing with another excellent 19-point, 15-rebound performance with an still excellent 8/11 shooting.

In the postgame, the player revealed that he felt the pressure of approaching the record.

In the last two games I was getting more and more nervous as I got closer to this goal. I couldn’t stop thinking about it, even when I went to sleep I was forced to make an effort to divert my thoughts.
