Over the weekend there will be the Draft WNBA. Caitlin Clark, defeated again in the NCAA finals, will leave college and be chosen #1 by the Indiana Fever.
Fever has already broken out in the WNBA over the arrival of the Des Moines star who has already made women’s basketball history, media-wise and otherwise. Clark is not yet a Fever player but has already revolutionized the television schedule. They will even be 36 Indiana games that will go live on national television out of the 40 that make up the regular season. Clearly, broadcasters want to maximize the Clark phenomenon that kept nearly 19 million viewers (with peaks of 24) glued to the TV for the collegiate title game, which his Iowa State lost to South Carolina.
And the teams that will play against Indiana have also adjusted, raising prices soaring for the tickets for those games. For example, in Chicago it will take $125 to see Caitlin Clark (as opposed to the usual $25), in Las Vegas it will go from the usual $15 to $115, in New York from $33 to $88. In short, Clark has not yet officially landed in the WNBA but everyone, including business operators, is eagerly awaiting her.
