The Golden State Warriors exited in the second round after a disappointing performance against the Los Angeles Lakers, and now it appears that general manager, Bob Myers, may be the first major piece of the Warriors to leave the facility.
The Warriors are said to be “preparing for the possibility that Myers may leave the company,” according to reporter Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Myers first joined the franchise in April 2011 and took over as GM just over a year later. The Warriors general manager and president of basketball operations is a 2-time NBA Executive of the Year and the architect of the Warriors’ 4 championship titles.
Charania added that Bob Myers and the Warriors have not had “substantive contract extension talks in months.”
Shams’ report echoes what Marc Stein recently said about Myers. According to Stein, Myers could step away from basketball for at least a year to spend time with his family. Stein called Myers “the Warrior most likely to leave the battle,” including Jordan Poole, who has fallen out of favor with many fans but was recently called a “key” member of the team by coach Steve Kerr.
