BETTY case opens in NBA: Jontay Porter under investigation

For the past few years the NBA has introduced betting as an integral part of its world. This aspect has become so important that in the last period some players have complained about refereeing, accusing officials of having financial interests in it, one example being Rudy Gobert. In these hours, however, the first betting case has broken out in the NBA: as reported by Adrian Wojnarowski, Jontay Porter, center for the Toronto Raptors and brother of Michael Porter Jr, has come under investigation.

Porter, who appeared in 26 official games this season, allegedly bet on games in which he played, something prohibited of course by the rules.. Not only for the players, but for all NBA employees, and not only on matches in which they are involved but on all events organized by the league. The player is maintaining 4.4 points and 3.2 rebounds average, finding much space in recent weeks due to various injuries on Toronto’s roster.

As written by ESPN, Porter’s bets. Would involve two Raptors games: January 26 against the Clippers and March 20 against the Suns. On Jan. 26 there was unusual betting activity on the player’s under, as he left the court early due to an alleged eye injury and finished with 0 points, 3 rebounds and 1 assist (the threshold under which the bet would be won was 5.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists). In addition to this, for the same game, there was an under 0.5 on triples scored by Porter, who obviously did not score a single one. The payoff from this last bet was highest among all the odds on that day.

On March 20, last week against Phoenix, the same thing happened: Porter played only 3′, then left due to apparent illness. His stats were 0 points, 2 rebounds and 0 assists, again well below the under of 7.5 points and 5.5 rebounds. As in the previous case, it was reported the next day that the under on Porter was the most profitable bet of the entire day.
