Last night the All Star Weekend opened in Indianapolis with Celebrity Game and Rising Stars, the latter won by the Team Jalen, a team coached by Jelen Rose and in which talents such as Chet Holmgren, Jalen Williams and Bennedict Mathurin. The latter was precisely the star of the mini-tournament, first scoring 11 points to beat Team Tamika and then also winning the final against Team Detlef though only with a 4-point haul.
During the semifinal against Team Tamika captained by Paolo Banchero however, the Indiana Pacers sophomore was despite himself a figurehead. With his team leading and only 2 points separating them from the Target Score of 40 points to end the game, Mathurin had two free throws to close things out. So he swaggered to make a bet with Banchero as he stood at the free throw line: 25,000 if he scored both of them.. Not only did Bennedict Mathurin not score both of them, he didn’t even put in one!
For this he was also teased on social media by Banchero himself, who re-posted a post about the incident.
