Andrew Bogut on the Giddey case: “The girl lied about her age.”

Josh Giddey is still awaiting the verdict of the NBA investigation after allegations against him circulated on social media about dating a 15-year-old girl, thus under the age of consent in Oklahoma. The Australian point guard still took the court in subsequent games despite the dust-up, but some sponsors are reportedly considering tearing up his contracts to distance themselves from this potential scandal.

Potential because in the first place the girl did not report anything. Secondly because there is very vague information about the girl herself, starting with her age. According to some, and Andrew Bogut is a member of this club, she would have lied to Giddey about the real age.

“If Josh was 19, 21, 22 years old and had dated a 15-year-old girl, I would consider that deplorable behavior and I would be against it. I don’t think that’s the case. If I’m wrong I’ll come back here and apologize, but I don’t think that’s the situation. From what I was told, the girl was younger than she said and would lie about her age. Moreover, the events happened more than a year ago. I don’t think it’s something that happened recently, but many people think it’s a recent story because it’s circulated now on social media. It’s hard to really comment on the story until we get a clear picture of the situation. From what I know, OKC had been aware of the situation for a year. They saw no problems and continued to let him play. The NBA allowed it, so that makes me wonder.” Bogut stated.

I think it all happened in California, where the age of consent is 18 years old. I think Josh knew she was under that age, but she told him she was older. It is a bad situation for everyone, for there to be legal consequences there should be a complaint from the girl or her family. From what I know, none of this will happen because the girl lied about her age.” continued the former Warriors player.
