Woj bomb: ”This is why the Warriors didn ’t suspend Green ”

The basketball world was caught off guard by the Golden State Warriors ’ recent decision to fine Draymond Green for his punch to Jordan Poole instead of punishing the veteran with a disqualification. For some, the punishment is not enough for the mistake he made.

ESPN ’s NBA guru Adrian Wojnarowski has shed light on the issue as only he knows how. According to the famous broadcaster, the fact that the Warriors will receive their championship rings on opening night Oct. 18 certainly played a key role in their decision not to suspend Draymond:

I am told that the Warriors have given significant weight to the fact that opening night is also the night of the presentation of the rings and the posting of the banner of the 2021-22 championship won by the Warriors. They simply did not view it as a one-game suspension out of 82. If this incident had come in the middle of the regular season, there probably would have been a suspension. If the Warriors were not defending champions and were just playing a regular opening night, there very well could have been a disqualification. ”

”But Golden State simply did not want to punish Draymond Green by taking away his chance to experience opening night where he would get his fourth ring with the Warriors and see his fourth banner raised to the arena ceiling. ”.
