Was Wade and LeBron together in Miami the result of a plan by the two friends?

Dwyane Wade and LeBron James never had a predetermined plan to team up with the Miami Heat in 2010. It just happened. It also changed the landscape of the entire league and led to no less than two NBA titles for the Heat’s Big 3.

Speaking on a recent episode of the Point Forward podcast with Andre Iguodala and Evan Turner, Wade talked about how his partnership with LeBron came about. According to Wade himsef, he never imagined playing alongside LeBron before James actually brought his talents to South Beach in the summer of 2010:

“I never thought we would play together. It had never crossed my mind. Playing in the All-Star Game, the summer games and the Olympics, that’s one thing, but playing the 82-race NBA season together is very different. You know how hard it is to think about playing with another guy who wants the ball as badly as he does.”

At the time, LeBron’s move to join another superstar on the same team was virtually unprecedented. Even Wade himself did not think it would be possible. But he did. James decided to turn his back on his beloved Cleveland Cavaliers to form one of the most dominant trios in league history in Miami with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. The rest, as they say, is history.

“Until free agency in 2010, I never thought we could play together,” he continued. “A lot of people think we were revolutionaries; I wish we were that smart. I heard we were planning this plan since 2004, but we are not that smart.”
