Touching Curry: best wishes to Brittney Griner at ring ceremony

The Golden State Warriors began their NBA title defense Tuesday night at home again, the Los Angeles Lakers. Before the game, the Warriors experienced a ring ceremony with Stephen Curry who also wished a happy birthday to Brittney Griner, who remains imprisoned in Russia.

Griner turned 32 yesterday in Russia as she continues to fight for her freedom. Griner was arrested in Moscow last February after authorities discovered vaporizer cartridges containing cannabis oil in her possession. The American suffered a nine-year prison sentence last August but still has an appeal pending next week.

Steph Curry and most of the NBA have expressed their support for Griner, who released a statement on Tuesday thanking everyone who continues to think of and support her.

Of course, Steph Curry can do no more than that to help Brittney Griner. In the end, it will be up to the U.S. and Russian governments to decide whether the American basketball player will be able to avoid the long prison sentence in Russia. The hope is that a solution will be reached quickly between Russia and the rest of the world.
