Tonight Simone Fontecchio made the difference in favor of the Detroit Pistons against the Miami Heat at the Kaseya Center in Florida. The Italian started once again from the bench but played almost 30 minutes, 29 and 11, and he really held up the Motor City lineup with his performance.
Fontecchio finished with 22 points with 7 of 16 from the field, including 5 of 12 from long distance in the contest between Detroit and Miami. The former Baskonia and ALBA Berlin also added 4 rebounds, 2 assists and a stolen ball to his performance. Fonte was also perfect on a stopwatch as he finished 3 of 3 from the charity line.
Bottom line. didn’t get that far from his best NBA performance ever, coming about a year ago with the Utah Jazz. Last March 25, 2023, he put up 26 points against the Milwaukee Bucks while still wearing the Salt Lake City franchise’s jersey.
Let’s see if Fontecchio can improve on his career-high, perhaps surpassing 30 points. It’s clearly not easy but it’s not impossible either. Let’s say that the start from the bench is helping him compared to the first games with Detroit and probably Monty Williams will continue this way with the 1995 Italian class.
