Dirk Nowitzki shock: “After retirement, I can’t move.”

Dirk Nowitzki retired from playing basketball in 2019 after 21 seasons with the Dallas Mavericks. A very long career for the German player who later joined the Mavs management as a consultant.

The many battles with the Texas team, however, left their mark on Nowitzki’s body, who admitted to having several mobility problems after he stopped playing.

If I had quit two years earlier, I wouldn’t have so many mobility problems now. I think those two seasons weren’t worth it, there were some good times but the team wasn’t turning around and the truth is I couldn’t stand up anymore. Now I enjoy playing soccer with the boys but if you can’t move well it’s hard, I try a couple of times a week but by now I have lost almost all my mobility. Unfortunately it’s not easy to know when to stop, you keep having fun and motivation, the body seems to respond but it doesn’t. Now I’m glad I have more family time, that’s why I told the Mavericks executives I didn’t want a full-time position.
