CRIMINAL gesture by Jamal Murray: Does he risk disqualification?

I Denver Nuggets lost Game 2 and even a little bit of their heads last night, slipping to 0-2 down in the series against the Minnesota Timberwolves. What is being discussed in these hours is the behavior of Jamal Murray, who, in the midst of a horrendous 8-point, 3/18 shooting performance, was the protagonist of two absolutely condemnable episodes.

The first, less serious, is making the money sign toward the referees, somewhat like Rudy Gobert had done over a month ago. The Frenchman had been fined $100,000, so a similar penalty is expected for the Nuggets star.

But especially Murray at one point in the fourth quarter, threw a hot water bottle from the bench toward the court., in protest of a (according to him) missed referee call. The object was thrown toward a referee without hitting him, but ended up dangerously close to Karl-Anthony Towns who was finishing at the basket, risking him slipping and causing who knows what injury. Fortunately, there were no consequences, but in these hours people are wondering if Jamal Murray does not deserve at least one game of suspension.

The NBA is always very careful to protect referees, even when they are attacked verbally. Here they were even physically attacked, so a disqualification would at least make sense. Needless to say, in the event of Murray’s absence, it would be almost impossible for Denver to retake the series from 0-2, not least because the next two games will be played in Minneapolis.
