One year ago the images of Caleb Swanigan in pitiful physical condition, severely obese, had generated a stir. The player had recently been arrested for marijuana possession and only a year had passed since his last appearance on an NBA court. Now news has come from his university, Purdue, that is nothing short of tragic: Swanigan has died at just 25 years old.
Our thoughts and prayers to Caleb Swanigan’s family and friends. The world lost a gentle soul last night.

The conditions of Swanigan’s death are not known, and could also be due to his physical condition itself. The young man had been the 26th pick in the draft in 2017, but in the NBA he had played only 75 games in three seasons between Portland and Sacramento.
