All Star Game 2023 starters: surprises Giannis and Mitchell in the East

The NBA on the night announced the 10 starters, five per conference, who will take part in theAll Star Game 2023 Salt Lake City. The result was the result of voting by fans (50 percent), media (25 percent) and players (25 percent). The surprises were mostly in the East, relative to what had been the fans’ preferences in recent weeks. Joel Embiid is definitely the big outlier in these results, the Philadelphia 76ers center will remain out of the starting five: Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kevin Durant and Jayson Tatum have been preferred over him.

Giannis himself is the other big surprise, not so much for his presence in the quintet, which is a given, but for the “band” of captain. The Greek surpassed Kevin Durant, who had led the Eastern Conference in voting in early January. The Eastern Conference players who were chosen for the quintet are then Giannis (captain), Durant, Tatum, Kyrie Irving and Donovan Mitchell.

In the West to report the exclusion of Anthony Davis, out for over a month due to injury despite stellar numbers before going KO. In his place, contrary to the fans’ choice, Zion Williamson, currently injured (he will be reevaluated in 2 weeks), was called up. LeBron James, without too many surprises, will once again be captain as the highest rated player. The quintet will thus consist of the following James (captain), Williamson, Nikola Jokic, Luka Doncic and Steph Curry, favorites Ja Morant.

Once the reserves, chosen by the coaches, are also announced, the two captains will make up the two teams with a mini-Draft. This time, unlike in recent years, the Draft will be held on live television right before the All Star Game’s two-ball, to make it more enjoyable and entertaining.
